(Repost from IFLA news) Brazilian non-profit Instituto Dois Irmãos (i2i) is the 2009 winner of IFLA’s Guust van Wesemael Literacy Prize. The award sponsors a public or school library in a developing country to purchase books and materials to promote literacy.
Check out Instituto Dois Irmãos (i2i) online, with details about their new community literacy center, classes in computers and business, volunteer initiatives, and how to get involved in literacy projects in other squattertowns of Brazil. Even more exciting projects are on their blog. The children look so happy to be able to be in a school environment.
