Water Mountains in Guilin, China

In my biased opinion, Guilin, China = the most beautiful place in the world.

Every since starting this blog, I’ve noticed more and more written about international and global librarianship. I might be crazy — but this month it seems to be a hot topic . The awesome Meaghan O’Connor at IREX wrote an intriguing piece about international development and librarianship; Ellen Tise, President of IFLA, spoke at the Mortenson Center about libraries playing a role in lifelong learning and cultural development in Africa; and TechSoup Global (@TechSoup) got some good press from Peter Scott, blogjunction, the Huffington Post and others in the library and non-profit sector.

With all this highlighted in the library world, it’s natural to feel a little tingle of wanderlust.

And then along comes this article by Sarah P. Gibson, a Maine children’s book author and a former international librarian. A native Mainer myself, I couldn’t help but give her a little publicity. Her must-read article “Going International!” was featured in Library Journal. It’s a great beginner’s article about the (non-American) library job market and includes a resource list for getting that first international job.
